온라인으로 독일어 공부 시작하기 / Learning German online

 휴학을 하는동안 독일어 공부를 하려고 여기저기 뒤져봤었다. 서울에 있을때는 대학 부설의 어학원에서 공부할 수 있었지만 막상 휴학을 하고 울산에 내려오니 오프라인에서는 독일어를 공부할 수 있는 곳이 단 한군데도 없더라...ㅠㅠ 혹시나 싶어서 울산대학교 부설어학원? 같은곳을 기웃거려봤지만 울산대학교에는 독어독문학과가 없고 개설된 수업도 일본어/중국어 두가지 뿐이었다.

 어쩔수없이 온라인으로 공부할 방법을 찾아보았으나, 역시 한국어로 강의하는 마땅한 컨텐츠가 없었다. 초보자를 위한 독일어 교양서적은 여럿 나와있지만 중장기적으로 공부를 할만한 책은 흔치 않고, 그나마 유명한 '최신독일어'는 굉장히 오래전에 나온... 나에게는 딱딱한 구성이라 문법공부를 할때 참고용으로만 사용하고 있다.

 하여튼 뭔가 메인으로 공부할 수 있고 혼자 할 수 있는 컨텐츠가 필요했던것! 여기저기 찾아보다가 Duolingo와 Babbel을 발견했다. 나는 현재 Babbel을 이용해 공부하고있다.

 During a break from school, I searched hear and there to start studying German. I could study at a language institute in university when I was in Seoul. But after I came to Ulsan there is nowhere I can learn German.. :( I also tried to find it at Ulsan University, but there is no German Language and Literature major in there, they didn't provide any language course for non-university students. I remember that there was only Chinese and Japanese course for non-student. 

 I had no choice thus I sought other ways to study German online. There was no German course taught in Korean as might have been expected. There were several educational book for starters, but I rarely found a book that I can study in long term. '최신독일어' was the only book people said it's good for German studying, but It was published long time ago and the contents were so formal for me.

 Thus I found some materials to study by myself. I found Duolingo and Babbel and now I'm studying with Babbel.

1. Duolingo

 스마트폰, 웹 브라우저 기반의 외국어 학습 사이트. 독일어 외에도 불어, 스페인어, 이탈리아어, 포르투갈어, 네덜란드어등 다양한 언어를 지원한다. 최근에 Site Language를 한국어로 설정할 수 있게 추가된 듯 하다. 이전에 할때는 Duolingo와 Babbel모두 display language가 영어뿐이었기때문에 컨텐츠가 좀 더 낫고 공부하기에 편한 Babbel을 선택했다. 영어에 약하다면 듀오링고를 이용하는게 좋을듯. duolingo를 이용하지 않았던 이유는 학습방법과 컨텐츠가 babbel에 비해 별로라고 느꼈기 때문.

 It supports smartphone and web browser either. It also provides French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch. It seems that they recently started to support Korean as a display language. When I first found it. Babbel and Duolingo either didn't provide Korean as a display language. So I choose Babbel because contents of it was better and it was more easy to learn. You'd better study with Duolingo if you're not comfortable with English.

 

2. Babbel

 마찬가지로 스마트폰과 웹 브라우저 모두를 지원한다. 내용이 무겁지 않고 가볍기 때문에 스마트폰에서도 쉽게 이용할 수 있다. 듀오링고에서 공부할 수 있는 언어에 더해 러시아어, 영어, 폴란드어, 인도네시아어, 터키어 + 등등까지 지원한다. 아쉬운점은 display language로 한국어를 지원하지 않는다. 내가 공부를 시작할때는 듀오링고나 바벨 둘다 영어밖에 지원하지 않았기 때문에 학습방법이 좋은 바벨을 선택했다. 영어로도 내용을 이해하는데 별 무리가 없었기 때문에 오히려 문법과 관련된 영어단어들을 습득하는 기회가 되기도 했다. 덧붙여 매일 영어로 된 컨텐츠를 읽다보니 따로 시간을 내어 영어 독해 공부를 하지 않아도 되는 보너스까지! 독일어는 Beginner course에서 A1, A2수준의 컨텐츠를, intermediate course에서 B1수준의 컨텐츠를 제공한다. 

 B2 이상 수준의 컨텐츠를 제공하지 않고, display language로 한국어를 제공하지 않는다는 점은 매우 아쉽지만 처음 외국어 공부를 시작하기에 가장 좋은 플랫폼이 아닐까 생각한다. Babbel에서 제공하는 Review기능이 특히 만족스럽다. 학습이 끝난 컨텐츠를 사용자의 습득 정도에 따라 다시 보여주고 오나전히 숙달시켜준다. 다른 언어 공부를 위해서도 적극 추천한다.

 Also it supports smartphone and web browser either. Stuffs are not heavy, I mean easy to learn and understand, thus it really goes well with smartphone. They provides languages you were able to learn duolingo also, plus they support Russian, English(British and American), Polish, Indonesian, Turkish, etc. The thing that they doesn't provide Korean as display language should be desired. When I started to study, both of them didn't support Korean as display language. But contents and way of learning in Babbel was better. That's why I choose Babbel. I had no trouble with understanding contents in English. It even gave me a chance to know terms about grammar in English. Additionally I read English stuffs everyday, I didn't have to study English reading. In German Course, they provide A1 and A2 level in 'Beginner's course', B1 leve in 'intermediate course'.

 Not providing contents dealing over B2 level and supporting Korean as display language should be desired. But it's really helpful tool to start studying other language. I'm really satisfied with 'Review' function in Babbel. They show some words and sentences I learned before again in accordance with my personalized studying data. It helps me to understand the content completely by repeating. I strongly recommend it to you also for other languages.

 

 나는 현재 Babbel을 이용해 intermediate course : in-depth course에서 현재 B1, 목표 B2의 성적으로 공부를 하고있다. 처음 독일어 공부를 시작하려고 할때 마땅히 공부를 할 곳이 떠오르지 않아 매우 막막했었는데 이 글이 독일어나 기타 제2국어를 공부하려는 사람들에게 많은 도움이 됐으면 좋겠다!

 Now I'm studying intermediate course : in-depth course with Babbel. My purpose it to get B2 score and I'm on B1 level right now. I didn't know anything when I decided to study German at first time. I wish this post should help many people who want to start foreign language learning.
